Melvin J. “Mel” Barna, age 66, a wonderful dad who loved the outdoors, of Findlay Township, proud of Aliquippa heritage, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at The Canterbury Family Hospice. He was born in Sewickley, PA on Jan. 7, 1950 to the late Melvin and Rose (Pelosi) Barna. On January 17, 2008, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Beverly (Berger) Barna. Beloved father of Marisa Barna of Findlay Township; cherished step-son of Catherine Barna of Leetsdale; devoted brother of Frank (Patricia) Barna of Ross Township and John Barna of Ambridge. Mel was a 1967 graduate of Aliquippa High School and obtained two degrees from The University of Pittsburgh, B.S. in Biochemistry and Computer Science. His last position before retirement was with U.S. Airways as a computer programmer. He enjoyed spending time at Raccoon Creek State Park and was a former member of Friends of Raccoon Creek State Park. He loved being in nature, whether it be hiking, bicycling or camping. He was a kind man who loved to read and enjoyed investing. Traveling annually to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia was a trip that he loved to take with his family. Visitation Sunday 2-4, 6-9 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where prayers will be recited on Monday at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 10 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
