In a few months, I will be celebrating 30 years since I graduated from SVH School of Nursing. This prompted me to “walk down memory lane” and think about the people who were there for me in the beginning. One of the first influences that came to mind was Dr. Pitcavage. I’m heart broken to learn about his death, and I respectfully offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

As an 18 year-old nursing student, I was hesitant to spend time alone all day shadowing a physician. Dr. Pitcavage kept me busy and politely scared all at the same time. Since I was basically a child myself, he must have seen the fear in my eyes. It was then I saw not only Dr. Pitcavage’s expertise, but I saw his sense of humor as well. My tensions eased, and I thoroughly enjoyed my day in the office with a pediatrician.

My time with SVPAM didn’t end that day in nursing school. All three of my children were patients of Dr. Pitcavage’s practice. The youngest is now 24 years old, and my days visiting the pediatrician are over. However, I can assure you that Dr. Pitcavage has left an imprint on this nurse and mother’s heart that will never be forgotten. ~John 14:2-3

We were blessed to have your Husband, Father, and Grandfather as our family pediatrician.
He was a kind, loving, funny, giving, intelligent , compassionate man. He reminded me of my own beloved father (who lived very far away from me) and I told him so. He would make us laugh and every visit was a good one as he would diagnose and catch up on our lives. I had to take my daughter to see him after my Father's death and he was so compassionate as I told him in tears my father had crossed over. I have never met such an incredible doctor who knew his calling and lived it. May God bring all of you peace as you miss this beloved man who was loved by so many. He changed our lives. He was a true gentleman and I feel blessed to have known him and had him our lives.

Dr. Pitcavage was more than a wonderful pediatrician to our children, he was an amazing role-model and family friend. He and Julie were so kind to always be there for us as new parents when our kids were little and I didn't know what to do when they were sick. Thank you, Julie, for your love and kindness through the years. You have been so blessed with an amazing husband and family, and he will be sorely missed. May our Lord give you and your family peace and comfort at this difficult time, knowing that Doc now rests in His loving presence.

Dear Julie and Family,
Jim and I were so sorry to hear the news of Jim's passing. What a great guy! He taught me lessons in pediatrics that I carried into motherhood and also shared general life lessons. My time working with you and Doc were wonderful and often in my thoughts. He was the best! So happy he was with us when our two oldest daughters were born. My nieces, nephews and grand nephews have also been under his care over the years and he is loved by all! May God's blessings, comfort and consolation be with all of you!

Julia, Jo, Judy, Jimmy, Jon and Joel ... I am profoundly affected by your loss. I first met Doc as my pediatrician when my family moved to the area in 1967. Over the years, he became my bowling teammate and my friend, though I hadn't seen him in many, many years. I recall him being active in St. James Church and Quaker Valley Little League and as chief of the Sewickley Valley Hospital medical staff and on the sidelines with the Quaker Valley football team. I remember the night I ran out of gas on Beaver Road in Leetsdale and he stopped to help. Your husband and father touched many lives in many ways. That is the mark of a truly great man. You will feel this loss the most. But this is a huge loss to the community.
