William Blair Wardrop Jr., 51, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 21, 2023. He was the beloved son of Bill and Susie Wardrop (of Sewickley Heights), and brother of Elizabeth Wardrop Lawley and an uncle to her two children, Alex and Carolyn. Blair was married to Colleen Dobson Wardrop and joined her large family of Helen Dobson (Edward Dobson deceased) and her six siblings (Michael, Deborah, Marc, Christina, Keith and Gregory) and all of their children. Blair’s family extends further to his aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his best friend, Hugh Reynolds.
Blair attended Edgeworth Elementary, Sewickley Academy, and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy, 6th out of 810 in his class holding rank as a Battalion Commander. Thereafter he pursued his love of flying airplanes at Averett College. In his career he worked to earn the rank of captain. To know Blair was to live through his career stories of his interesting cargo transports, and responsibilities associated with executing contracts for the Department of Defense. Blair was a proud American. His other life interests included golf, the Pittsburgh Steelers and spending time in Maine, at Kennebunkport or Deer Isle, two of his favorite locations. Blair could light up any room with his smile and would make anyone laugh with his engaging personality. He added flavor to conversations in any forum, and was a loyal and committed man.
