William Logsdon Obituary

William Henry Logsdon, 85, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 15, 2023, at Masonic Village at Sewickley. Bill was a Former Council President of Edgeworth Borough where he and his wife, Carroll, lived for more than 40 years.

Bill was born on May 22, 1937, to Louis Anthony and Gladys Margaret (Doyle) Logsdon in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Bill served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1962-1965 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Bill was married for 60 years to Carroll Colbert Logsdon who preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Kent (Michelle), of Falls Church, Virginia, and daughters Catherine (Ernesto Moreno) of Goodyear, Arizona, and Karen (John Landwehr) of Vienna, Virginia. He was the sports-loving, Cadillac-driving “Granddad” to six grandchildren: Honora (Nora) and William (Will) Logsdon; Anita and Severano (Seve) Moreno; and John Thomas III (JT) and Todd Landwehr. Bill is also survived by his brothers Father L. Peter Logsdon C.S.C. (Austin, Texas) and J. Michael Logsdon (Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio) and his sister, Leann Logsdon (New Orleans, Louisiana). He was “Uncle Bill” to five nieces and seven nephews and their families across the country.

Bill joined The Webb Law Firm in 1965 and practiced patent law until he retired in 2019. He was the go-to attorney for anything trademark related and served as The Webb Firm’s Chairman from 1997-2008. Bill was admitted to practice law by the Ohio Bar and Pennsylvania Bar, as well as the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and various Federal Courts of Appeal. Bill was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Allegheny County Bar Association, Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association, and International Trademark Association. He was also an Allegheny County Bar Foundation Fellow.

Bill was a voracious reader with a curious mind. He loved biographies, and read everything from local daily Pittsburgh papers to national business and professional journals cover to cover. Sports were Bill’s passion—he was a dedicated Notre Dame alumnus as well as a Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fan.

For more than 55 years, Bill was a parishioner at St. James Parish where he served on the Church Committee, as Council President, and as CCD Program Leader. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus Council #5367.

A civic-minded citizen, in addition to the Edgeworth Borough, Bill volunteered his time to Chair the Leetsdale Municipal Authority and worked with the Sewickley Valley Community Fund. He was honored as The Sewickley Herald’s Man of the Year in 2007. In recognition for his service as Executive Committee Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, Bill earned the St. George Award. He was also proud to be one of the four head coaches at the founding of Sewickley Area Soccer and the assistant coach of the first Sewickley Area Girls’ Travel Soccer Team.
