William Burns Obituary

William Clay Burns, 84 of Davenport, Florida and formerly of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 29, 2021, at home with his loving wife and family by his side.  He was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on April 13, 1937, son of the late Simon Peter and Regina Burns (Clay).

He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 59 years, Mary Burns (DeMarino); daughters Nancy Stopperich (Mike) and Susan Kotvas (Marvin); grandchildren Patrick Stopperich (Tabatha) of Nashville, Michael Stopperich (Izi) of Orlando, Ashley Niesslein (Michael) of Orlando, Michael Kotvas (Ashlee), Matthew Kotvas, and Cassie Kotvas of Moon Township; great grandchildren Ethan, Kaiden, Vivianna, Declan, Ariella Joy, Noah, Tucker, Landon, Oliver, Liv, and Michael; brother Simon Peter (Patricia) of Bethel Park, and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by brother Patrick Burns of Bethel Park.

Upon graduation from the University of Pittsburgh, Bill started his 40+ year career at Allegheny Airlines.  Bill was very passionate and proud of his work in Reservations, Quality Control, and Sales and Leasing. He made a lot of lifelong friends and great memories along the way.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, and friends. He loved traveling, Disney, casino trips, and cruising worldwide.  He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. He frequently traveled to away games, spring trainings, and training camps. Bill was thrilled to be in attendance at the “Immaculate Reception” game.

Bill was a man who believed that family is first and he portrayed this by being the best husband, father, and grandfather that anyone could ever want.  He loved all of his grandchildren and they all loved to be entertained by his famous one-liner “Burnsie” jokes. These will stay with them forever.

Friends will be received at Copeland Funeral Home in Moon Township on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 5-8PM.  Funeral will be held at St Catherine’s Catholic Church in Glenwillard at 10am on Friday, Oct. 8.
