Walter “Hoot” L. Gleason, Jr., the friendly window clerk with his “Santa” beard, at Sewickley Post Office for the past 54 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Heritage Valley Hospital. Walter “Hoot” was born in Sewickley on September 7, 1936, the only child to the late Walter L. and Rose Mary (McNell) Gleason. He made his home most of his life in Sewickley. He was a 1954 graduate of Sewickley High School and had attended both the University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris College (now University). After completion of high school, he began working for the Sewickley Post Office and had served as Past Secretary of the APWU. Walter was a member of St. James Church. Beloved husband for 50 years to Sharon (Cannon) Gleason; well-loved father of James E. Gleason of Aliquippa, Amy Lyn Gleason of Coraopolis, and Jennine Marie (Robert) Pallone of Kirkwood, MO; cherished grandfather of Damien Gleason, Olivia, and Jacob Pallone.
