W. George Edel

W. George Edel, age 89, of Sewickley, died on Friday, March 17, 2023. Beloved husband of Ann Marie (Malade) Edel; loving father of Sue (Rich) Edel Jones and William R. Edel; brother of Jon C. (Mary Ellen) Edel and Eydie (late Jim) Endean; grandfather of Caitlin Elizabeth (Greg) Davison, Richard Griffin Jones, William Rhys Jones and George Kendall Jones; great grandfather of Cora Davison. George was a 1951 graduate of McKees Rocks High School. Immediately upon graduation, he was drafted into the US Army on his 19th birthday and served during the Korean War. While in the Army, attaining the rank of Corporal, he earned security clearances and worked on top secret duties based out of Texas. Upon his return to civilian life, he joined the Cochran Hose Company in Sewickley in 1961. He proudly served as the Fire Chief from 1993 – 1998. He was past president of the Allegheny County Fire Chief’s Association and a member of the Ohio Valley Fire Chief’s Association. He was still actively attending meetings and providing the Fire Company with news and updates.  He was a proud and honorable fireman to the end.  Friends received at R. D. Copeland, Ltd., Irvine Chapel, 702 Beaver Street, Sewickley on Wednesday from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 pm where a Blessing Service will be celebrated by Rev, Thomas J. Burke on Thursday at 11 am, followed by committal services at Sewickley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cochran Hose Company, 601 Thorn St, Sewickley, PA 15143.
