Therese M. (Rome) Haan, age 90, of Crescent, formerly of Moon Township, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 in her home. She was born on February 26, 1930 in Brussels, Belgium, daughter of the late Paul Rome and Marguerite Stassin Rome. Beloved wife for 60 years to Pierre J. Haan; mother of Bernard (Cindy) Haan and Francoise Haan from Boston MA and Washington, DC; grandmother of Jacob, Andrew, Owen, Myla, Ned, MyChi and MeiLi; and was very fond of her dear niece Beatrice Rome. Her siblings preceded her in death. She is also survived by her family in Belgium: Jean Pol (Janine), Beatrice, Richard (Sonia) Rome, Philippe Dusausoit, their children, and grandchildren. Therese’s story started in Belgium, where she became a teacher and taught Home Economics. She then moved to America with another Belgium native, named Pierre Haan, a Korean War Veteran. Therese and Pierre had been introduced by a mutual friend in Belgium, corresponded and fell in love. He returned to Belgium and they married on Nov. 12, 1960. They traveled to America settling in New York, then Indiana, and ultimately Pittsburgh. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She then opened her own business, Doll House Miniatures, Station Square, Pittsburgh from 1979 until 1994. She designed miniature carpets, oil paintings and numerous other fixtures for dollhouses. She was also proficient in calligraphy, stationery, and ‘petit point’ needlepoint. As we celebrate Therese’s life, we ask everyone to meet at St. Margaret Mary Church in Moon Twp. for Mass on Saturday (Jan. 23, 2021) at 9:30 AM (live streaming link-https://vimeo.com/event/627398/4a85467134). Burial will be private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in her name to Good Samaritan Hospice or St. Margaret Mary Church.
