The Reverend Thomas Moog Obituary

The Reverend Thomas E. Moog, age 75, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 after a long and valiant battle with ocular melanoma and uveal cancer. He was born on March 16, 1950, son of the late William F. Sr. and Mary E. (Weightman) Moog. Thomas was a devoted husband for 53 years to Carmen (Watson) Moog. Cherished father of Megan Cheran (fiancé Frank Munizza), Sarah Borgia (Louis III) and Hannah Gerle (Jason Sr.). Brother of the late William F. Moog Jr. (surviving spouse Katie). Beloved grandfather of Kinsey, Alexander and Tessah Cheran; Joseph, Elizabeth and Daniel Borgia; and Jason Jr., Brenna and Lila Gerle. Also survived by sisters-in-law Robin Perdue, Amy Konieczka (Eric) and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Thomas was a 1968 graduate of Penn Joint High School and 1972 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English. He further studied at Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary where he obtained his Master of Divinity and was ordained in 1976 at Thiel College. His first calling as a pastor was to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baden and First Lutheran Church in Conway. He was then called to North Zion Lutheran Church in Baldwin Borough for 6 years before being called to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sewickley where he served for 29 years. He served on several synodical boards during his career and as interim pastor for several congregations after retirement. He also served as the part-time chaplain at Masonic Village in Sewickley. Friends will be received at the R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, Irvine Chapel, 702 Beaver Street, Sewickley on Thursday from 3 – 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 616 Washington St, Sewickley on Friday, October 31st at 11 am. Everyone please meet directly at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rev. Moog's name to Lutheran World Relief www.lwr.org
