Susan J. Hamer, age 79, of Moon Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Born the daughter of the late Frank J. and Marion (Snyder) Hervert, Susan lived a life dedicated to family, education, and community. She was the beloved mother of Ross Lee (Lucy) Hamer and Kelly (Scott) Lindsay; cherished grandmother of Gracie (Bennett) Straker, Justin (Kaitlynn) Hamer, Maverick McGinness, and Marissa McGinness; and proud great-grandmother of Sophia, Luke, Hailey, Everlee, and Cohen. She is also survived by her loving partner, David (Lou) LaLonde; her brother, Frank (Sandy) Hervert; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graduate of Coraopolis High School, Susan went on to earn her degree at Slippery Rock University. She shared her passion for health and physical education as a teacher at Freedom High School, where she inspired generations of students over her 35-year career. Beyond the classroom, she was a dedicated coach and PIAA official, leading and supporting countless athletes in basketball, swimming, and softball. She also gave her time and creativity to the school’s yearbook for 25 years, leaving a lasting imprint on the Freedom community.
Susan had a zest for life that extended beyond her career. She loved to travel and camp, but her greatest joy was attending Johnny Mathis concerts across the country—over 100 in all. A true sports fan, she cheered faithfully for the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s name to the Beaver County Humane Society.
Arrangements entrusted to R.D. Copeland Funeral Home.
