Susan J. Carleton

Susan (Barry) Carleton, age 91, of Moon Township, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 4, 2026. Susan was born in Syracuse, NY on April 10, 1935, the daughter of the late John Leonard and Genevieve (Pierce) Barry. On April 6, 1973, she married the love of her life, Thomas R. Carleton, who preceded her in death on December 24, 2017. They had a beautiful 44 years together with many special moments that turned into wonderful memories. Susan started her career at Moon Area School District, first as a switchboard operator and for many years was assistant to the Athletic Director until her retirement in 2000. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Margaret Mary Church. Susan was an avid reader and enjoyed dancing. Her family was her world. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law with whom she made her home, Kimberly and Paul McCann of Hopewell and their four legged” fur baby”, Lou; her caregiver Melissa Slinde and her family who were also loved like family.  It is with grateful hearts that we extend our deepest thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for the love and tender care given to our mother, Susan, during her time of need. Visitation Thursday (May 7th) 4-8 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where prayers will be recited on Friday (May 8th) at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Margaret Mary Church, Moon Township at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Because Susan was an animal lover, the family suggests donations in her name to Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, 390 Old Hickory Ridge Rd., Meadowlands, PA 15347 (angelridgeanimalrescue.org).
