Steven Schnurer Obituary

Steven Louis Schnurer, age 65, was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on October 8, 1960 and passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026 at Rose Meadows Nursing Home in Baldwin PA.

Steve was the beloved son of Greeta (Hupp) Cohen of Bradfordwoods, PA and Charles Irwin Schnurer (deceased) from Westview, PA; beloved brother of Dr. Mark (Pamela) Schnurer of Moon Township, PA; brother of Greeta Schnurer of Oregon. Steve was the cherished uncle ("Uncle Steve") to a niece and several nephews: Michael Schnurer, Ava Schnurer and Aidan Schnurer of Pittsburgh; David Schnurer of Fort Worth TX, and Charlez Warbonnet of Oregon. Steve also was the great uncle to Nathan Schnurer and Edward Schnurer of Fort Worth, TX.

Steve graduated in 1978 from Churchill High School and was a life-long sports enthusiast, and was especially fond of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Steve served in the U.S. Army in Active Duty and Reserves in the 1980's and 1990's; in his healthy years Steve enjoyed weight lifting and bike riding on the Montour Trail in Pittsburgh with his father, brother, and nephews.

Steve will be remembered for his unique and dry wit sense of humor, and his burly and larger than life presence, the love he had for his cats, and his enjoyment of a "good scary movie".

Steve struggled with a lifelong addiction to alcohol that he fought bravely and continually, but which ultimately weakened his body, mind and spirit and led to his early death.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army in memory of Steve Schnurer.

A private family service will be held and Steve will be laid to his final resting place amongst the peace of nature at the Penn Forest Natural Burial Park.
