Sheila V. (Vasconcellos) Griffith

Sheila Veronica Griffith lived her 92 years to the fullest, as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Sheila left her earthly life, unexpectedly, on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Heritage Valley Sewickley, with all her children and niece, Dr. Arlene P. Grimmond present. She was born in British Guiana on March 29, 1926, one of three children to the late John and Christina (Fernandes) and John Vasconcellos. On July 14, 1987, she was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Joseph W. Griffith. She was preceded in death by siblings Dorothy Margaret Grimmond and Herbert Vasconcellos. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Marcia Alstrom of Whitehall, PA, Clairmonte (Desiree) Griffith of Moon Township, PA , Karen Bunn of New City, NY, Brian (Blony) Griffith of Charlotte, NC, and Mark Griffith of Milan, Italy; also 7 grandchildren: Melanie Alstrom, Melissa Alstrom, Ali (Alicia) Griffith, Cherisse (Terry) Wilson, Omari (Claire) Bunn, Ryan (Caroline) Bunn, and Kris Alleyne; also 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter,and dear friends Anita Henery, Rene Bayley, and Lynette Harding . She was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn, NY in the Dietary Department. Sheila made her home in Brooklyn, New York until she moved on June 7, 2001 to Coraopolis Towers. Sheila’s legacy was her special inclusive love and many considered her “Moms”. Sheila requested a private service. She will be buried in Resurrection Cemetery on Staten Island, NY with her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
