Scott Herbert Obituary

Scott was born on November 3, 1949, in Decatur, Alabama, to the late Jack and Marvolene Herbert. After a short illness, he unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was 75 years old. He grew up in Decatur, Alabama, graduating from Danville High School and obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of North Alabama in Mathematics and Chemistry, where he was also a starter on the basketball team. He worked as a computer programming consultant for many years and up until the time of his death. He was a citizen of the world and very well-traveled, nationally and internationally. He was a Peace Corps volunteer which stoked his desire to travel.  He is survived by his former wife, Linda Crossey, loving sons Jack (Marsha) and Luke; his brother Kenny; four cherished grandchildren Jackson, Aidan, and Maya Herbert, and Quentin Ealey.  He was preceded in death, recently by his sister, Janet Erwin. Scott, a quiet man who loved to read, was an avid sports fan, cheering for his favorite sports teams, the Atlanta Braves and Alabama Crimson Tide. Fifteen years ago, he got the gift of a life-time, grandchildren and was titled Pop. They gave him a new lease on life and provided him with a bigger purpose.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but most of all his adored grandchildren.
