Samuel McKay Roberts

Sam Roberts, 82, of Moon Twp., passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 peacefully surrounded by his family.  Born February 19, 1938 in Loyalhanna, PA, he was one of ten children to the late Samuel H. and Ruth Anderson Roberts.  In 1955, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Air Force.  He married his sweetheart, Sarah Tahon, in 1958 and together they raised three children in Scotland, Texas, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Florida, and Pennsylvania.  He served two tours in Vietnam.  After dedicating 25 years as an aircraft mechanic, he continued his trade at the 911th Air Force Base for an additional 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant.  As a true American, he proudly served God, country, and family.  He faithfully raised his flag each morning and lowered his flag each night. He enjoyed many activities, filling his time with hunting trips with his son, pitching in a traveling softball league, bowling and gardening.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 8 of his siblings.

He will be remembered and missed by his faithful wife of 63 years, Sarah; his beloved children, Robin (Sam) Roberts, David Roberts, and Penny (Bill) Slan; his adored grandchildren, Jason Roberts, Sarah Reyes, Rosa Reyes, Samantha Slan, and Rachel Slan; 9 loved great-grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson; his brother, Kenny (Margie) Roberts. 

Friends will be received Wednesday February 17, 2021 at Copelands, 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Twp., from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am.  Interment will follow at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
