Rosina "Rose" Venezia: It is with love, sadness and profound gratitude that the family of Rosina "Rose" Venezia, 102, announces she peacefully left this earth on May 1, 2022. She was a long-time resident of Edgeworth, Pennsylvania. Born in a stone house in the mountains of the Southern Italian town of Falerna, Italy to Nicola Raso and Caterina Raso, she was the sixth of seven children. She bravely came to America at the age of 17 with her mother, and brother Joe, to seek a better life. She married the love of her life, Joseph Venezia on June 18, 1939 in Sewickley, PA and together they had three children. Her family always came first. It would be an understatement to say she and Joseph worked extremely hard to provide for their family. A master gardener, Rose grew gigantic tomatoes, zucchini, beans and figs and would send the fruits of her labor to loved ones throughout the country. Rose's faith was personified by her acts of service which included being the maternal figure to her extended family in America, by opening her home and expressing her love through cooking elaborate Sunday dinners. Every meal she made was a feast and often included pasta, "minestra" and sopressata, everyone would sit for hours around her table. Instruction manuals could be written about her cookie making. Her famed cookies, especially the labor-intensive Lady Locks and Buckeyes were known to "disappear" if left unattended. Rose was independent, self-sufficient and lived alone after her husband's death in the house he built. She was able to do so with many years of compassionate care from her daughter Judy, Judy's husband Mike, who treated Rose as his own mother, and with help from their children Lauren and John Michael. She is survived by her son Joseph Venezia, of Colorado Springs, Colorado of whom she was extremely proud; son-in-law, Michael Vidak; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Venezia. Her eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida, New York and Italy, will forever carry the inspiration of her independent spirit, bravery and hardworking attitude. Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, John Venezia and daughter, Judith Vidak. Visitation at Copeland Funeral Home, Irvine Chapel in Sewickley on Friday May 6th from 3 - 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Redeemer Parish, St. James Church on Saturday May 7, at 10:30am. "Ti vogliamo bene" Mamma, Mother, Nonna, Nunny, Grandma Rose
