Robert Rowley Leighton, Jr.
Rob was born in Cleveland OH on March 17, 1947 and after a long illness, passed away
peacefully at Masonic Village Sewickley on March 24, 2024.
Rob was surrounded and loved by his family: his wife, Libby Andrews, and his brother,
Christopher Leighton (Betsy) of New Harbor, ME. Rob’s children were the joy of his life: Scott
Leighton (Sara) of Charlotte, NC, Frances Leighton (Nick) of Belmont, MA, Christine Leighton
(Hua Ye) of Belmont, MA, and step-children Jennifer Habel (Chris Bachelder) of Cincinnati, OH,
Rebecca Habel of Brooklyn, NY, and Jeffrey Habel of Yonkers, NY.
Rob was a beloved grandfather to Megan Leighton, Henry Leighton, Kai Leighton-Ye, Logan
Leighton-Ye, Alice Bachelder, Claire Bachelder, and Madeleine Heller.
Rob grew up in Sewickley PA and attended The Sewickley Academy, South Kent School, and
graduated from Kenyon College. In later years, he earned an M.B.A from The University of
Pittsburgh.
After graduation from college, Rob joined the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam aboard the USS
Henderson. Upon returning from active service, Rob married Kathy Eustis and returned to
Sewickley where they raised their children and where he lived until his passing.
Rob began his career working at Steelite, a small family owned business. He was awarded a
wide range of roles as the company expanded into a multi-national company, NCI. He retired
after 40 years in 2015.
He was an active member of Sewickley Presbyterian Church for 62 years and a member of
Allegheny Country Club. Rob was involved in the community and supported many local
charities as well as serving on the Quaker Valley School Board. He was an avid skier, paddle
and tennis player, an occasional golfer, and loved running and walking the streets of his
beloved community. He was known to add the skip to his walk and was a force of nature on
the dance floor.
A devoted husband and father, family always came first for Rob. He truly loved life and the
good company of friends, his many dogs, and a good glass of wine.
A memorial service will be held to honor him at Sewickley Presbyterian Church, 414 Grant St.,
Sewickley, PA on Saturday, April 27th at 2pm.
