Robert Earl Bagans, an involved, active, reliable, dedicated man interested in making the world a better place, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at UPMC Shadyside. He was 77. Born in Little Falls, New York on February 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Earl Robert and Gladys Boehler Bagans. Bob settled in Sewickley in the early 70’s and recently moved to Edgeworth. He was an usher and member of The Presbyterian Church, Sewickley. He also served in the US. Army. Bob worked for the Sewickley YMCA where he was the Programs Director and promoted the Indian Guides. He was a part-time dispatcher for the borough and later a self-employed painter.
Bob was a 51-year member of Kiwanis International and extremely involved in the Kiwanis Club of Sewickley, serving as Past President and was recipient of many awards. Kiwanis led him to Pennsylvania Key Club where he was the Administrator for Pennsylvania. In that position, he was a mentor and teacher of leadership skills and service to the youth of Pennsylvania high schools.
Bob was a volunteer fire fighter joining the Cochran Hose Company on June 24, 1974 and retired on December 31, 2014. Bob also volunteered at Brother’s Brother. Bob knew how to work hard and knew how to relax. He was an avid snow skier, loving the West and the Rockies. He also enjoyed traveling, cruising, as well as the simple pleasures of a backyard cook-out just relaxing with friends. He was a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bob made friends where ever he went and was well respected. Bob’s survivors are his many friends. Please join us as we celebrate Bob’s life with visitation on Monday (February 15, 2021) 2-4, 6-8 at Copeland’s Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. where service will be held on Tuesday (February 16, 2021) at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow with Traditional Fire Dept. send off including a bagpiper and military honors in Sewickley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends suggest donations in his name to Laughlin Children’s Center, 424 Frederick Ave.; Cochran Hose Co., 601 Thorn St.; or The Presbyterian Church, 414 Grant St., all of Sewickley, PA 15143 or a charity of your choice.
