Richard Allan Matthews

Richard Allan Matthews; Age 61 of Oakdale, PA passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Born in McKeesport on September 10, 1962, a son of Betty “Bet” and the late Donald Matthews. Cherished father of Nichole “Golden” Scarlett and her husband Jim “Jumbo”, Kenneth “Oldest Boy” Matthews and Richard Matthews. Brother of Donald “the Monster” Matthews, Kenneth “the doctor” Matthews. Grandfather of Daxxton Nichol-Matthews. Richard graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Concentration Accounting. He retired in 2007 from the Coast Guard and Air Force achieving rank of E6 Petty Officer.  In the military he worked as a webmaster where he put his talents in photography and photo editing to use. A very decorated veteran, he received the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal with Four Bronze Stars; Coast Guard Merit Unit Commendation with Two Gold Stars; Coast Guard Merit Team Commendation with Three Gold Stars; Coast Guard Unit Commendation Award; Coast Guard Achievement Medal with One Gold Star; DOT Outstanding Unit Award; Global War Terror Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Joint Service Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation. In his spare time, Richard loved ‘muterin, driving around looking for action, causing ruckus. Friends will be welcomed at the R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Twp on Thursday, March 21st from 4 – 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 22nd at 12 Noon followed by Burial with Full Military Honor’s at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville.
