Peggy Cole Obituary

Cole, Peggy Ann; The daughter of the late Luerean Murray Godfrey and Aaron (Brownie) Godfrey, Sr., was born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 24, 1947.

Peggy Ann was raised in Hazelwood, PA on Chatsworth St, back in the Hole, as it was called. As a child she was a natural nurturer, she played outside and loved to pick fresh fruits and veggies out of her neighbors gardens. In 1961, at the age of fourteen, she gave birth to the late Raymond Louis Cole III, two years later she married the late Raymond Louis Cole, Jr., in Texas and gave birth to Tyrone Cole (1963) and Saundra Cole (1964). She moved back to Pittsburgh shortly after due to family tragedy. Peggy later gave birth to Terrance Cole (1968), years later she gave birth to the late Jaison Houser (1982) and Brittany McCoy (1986).

Peggy’s compassion for her family and community led her work at Gladstone High School as a security guard. With her loyalty and dedication for cooking, she later opened a very popular restaurant known as Mama Rene’s in homage to her mother, the late Luerean Murray Godfrey located in Hazelwood, PA.

“Peg Loc” was no loner, she was as sound as a bell, always putting a smile on your face and sharing her wisdom. Peggy loved to hang out with family and close friends, going to bingo, casinos, playing cards, driving fast, and traveling around the world. You couldn’t tell “Peg Loc” nothing, and a family gathering was always up her alley. She stayed dressed to the nine, loved wearing her jewelry and Coach purses. Peggy’s love for children was unmatched and she unconditionally loved her family.

Peggy was the Matriarch of her family. A true thoroughbred, one of a kind, an Original Gangster. She was loving, caring and always a helping hand to whomever encountered her, but don’t get it twisted, she wasn’t afraid to read, write or erase you! As she would always say, “We wouldn’t be able to know the season from the buds on the tree”. She was truly a wonderful mother, grandmother, family member and friend to many. Peggy Ann Cole was life and loved life, she will be deeply missed.

Peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021, Peggy transitioned from life on earth to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Louis Cole III, and Jaison Michael Houser. “Peggy” leaves to cherish her memories, four loving children, Tyrone R. Cole, Saundra L. Cole, Terrance L. Cole and Brittany J. McCoy all from Hazelwood along with a mass of Grands and Great Grands; as well as five siblings: Connie Murray Johnson, Juanita Godfrey Humphrey, Theresa Godfrey Tullis, George Godfrey, and baby brother Eric Godfrey along with a host of family and friends.

We will always love you “Peg Loc”
