Norbert K. Pietrzak, PhD., fondly known as "Doc," age 96, of Moon Township since 1988, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 28, 1929, only son of six children, all of whom preceded him in death to the late Frank and Helen (Kraczyk) Pietrzak. Doc, highly educated, graduated from University of Pittsburgh in 1951 with his bachelor`s degree in biology, a master`s in microbiology from Duquesne University in1953, and his doctorate from University of Pittsburgh in 1958. Doc taught Microbiology at Seton Hill College as well as St. Vincent College. In 1965 he was hired by Robert Morris College, which became a university, to organize their Science Department. He enlisted Fisher Scientific to help with that organization of that department. In 2002, he retired from Robert Morris University until they coaxed him out of retirement where he worked part time. Doc was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He also founded the Bonsai Club in Pittsburgh, traveling to China and Japan in an effort to study the bonsai trees. Doc was also the Past President of the Polish Arts League of Pittsburgh. As we stated above, Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Elizabeth Pieterzak, Gertrude Kijanka, Helen Gorczyca, Rita Pieterzak, and Clara Kirk. He is survived by lots of loving nieces and nephews, his best friend and caregiver John Jeffrey Allen and his caregiver and friend Lynne "Kathi" Miodel, his devoted chihuahua "Chika" along with a couple of friends, and many grateful students. Visitation Thursday (April 9th) from 2-4, and 6-8 at Copeland`s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where prayers will be recited at 9:30 AM follow by Mass at Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Margaret Mary Parish, on Friday (April 10th) at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Josaphat Cemetery in his family section
