Naomi Williams Obituary

Prentice Naomi Williams, 91, a life-long resident of Coraopolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Kane Community Living Center.

One of nine children, she was born in Sewickley on June 7, 1933, to the late Arthur George and Prentice (Strawther) Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Arthur Williams, Imogene Howard, Margaret Shaw, Ben Williams, Jenny Matthew and Georgette Williams.

Naomi was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ambridge and the Elks. She also loved to bowl and play bingo. Professionally, she was well known as one of the only Black Cosmetologists in Coraopolis. After a negative experience working in a salon, she was encouraged by her father to work for herself. She began her own business in the basement of their home at 19 years of age and operated there until her late 70’s. Every customer interaction was one filled with honesty, immeasurable giggles and of course, a little style. When she wasn’t working in her salon, she worked at two local funeral homes, Copeland’s and Paul Bohn, styling the hair of deceased community residents.

It goes without saying that Naomi wasn’t shy about sharing her opinion, whether you asked for it or not. Those opinions earned her a reputation that made everyone look forward to her presence. Wherever Naomi was, you were sure to have a good time in an atmosphere filled with infectious energy and plenty of laughter. A great baker, she would spoil people with her homemade pound cakes and zucchini bread that indeed had more butter than the recipe called for, but there were never any complaints.

Naomi always looked forward to her family vacation with her siblings and their families in the Poconos. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Williams (the friendly post person), Coraopolis, PA; her granddaughter Denise Laverne (Bryon Stephen) Burton-Griffin, Charlotte, NC; her three great grandchildren Lexus T. Burton, Elisha L. E. Griffin, and Christian M. Griffin, Charlotte, NC; her brothers Isaiah Williams, San Diego, CA, Josh Williams, Coraopolis, PA; and her Goddaughter, Stephanie Jones and her children, Amaya, Aubrey and Elijah Faulker, Moon Twp., PA along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Arrangements by Copeland’s.
