Myrtis (Gilmore) Wilmer, 62, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Myrtis was born in Pittsburgh on June 24, 1960, one of ten children to the late Robert Lee and Rosa Mae (Murphy) Gilmore. In addition to her parents, welcomed into heaven by three sisters and three brothers: Janice Murphy, Mildred Murphy Gilmore, Arlene Gilmore, Jonathan Banks, Ronald Gilmore, and Raymond Gilmore. Myrtis was a resident of Coraopolis since 1998, formerly of Pittsburgh’s Northside. Myrtis’ education included Crescent, Arsenal, Peabody and later got her GED@ Job Corp in WV. Her passion was the nursing field, always helping the elderly and became a certified nurse’s aide from Sycamore Creek Nursing Home. Myrtis was a long-time employee of Autumn Lane, Coraopolis and had received continuing education at Ohio Valley Hospital. She was continually promoted within the facility reaching the level of CNA-Certified Medication Aid from Autumn Lane. She was a dedicated member of Whosoever Wills Church. She also began a mime ministry that was continued at St. Paul AME Zion Church. Myrtis was the “neighborhood hairstylist.” She was a great storyteller; spooky stories were her specialty. She enjoyed family activities, sitting on the beach, watching camping and thunderstorm videos. She enjoyed volleyball, winning the volleyball championship 1976. She also ran track for Peabody. Myrtis was selected to run in a special track tournament for Jesse Jackson. She was a world traveler, living in Germany, Switzerland, and France. She had a special gift from God that she used to help countless people. Her prayers were used to rebuild people. Myrtis was the life of every party, always joking and her ride was always Sarina. Beloved mother of Sarina Hudson of Coraopolis; she considered Greg Russell as her son-in-law; cherished grandmother of Daython Hudson-Cavey and Zachariah Hudson-Russell; sister of Anna Mae Helenkamp, Robin Gilmore, and Robert Gilmore; former spouse of Michael Wilmer. Visitation Friday (Sept. 23, 2022) 2-4, 6-8 at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave. Further visitation will be on Saturday from 12 PM until time of service at 1 PM at Whosoever Wills, 878 First Ave., Coraopolis, PA 15108. Rev. James Walston will officiate. Graveside burial will be at Allegheny Cemetery on Monday at 11 AM.
