Melvin Fabean Obituary

Melvin Earl “Tico” Fabean, 94, of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, formerly of Coraopolis, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Born on June 29, 1931, in Coraopolis, he was the son of the late Serafino and Vera Fabean. From an early age, Melvin was known for his playful spirit and sense of humor—often getting into trouble at school simply for giggling too much. That lighthearted nature stayed with him throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Coraopolis High School - Class of 1951, Melvin was a standout track athlete, earning him the lifelong nickname “Tico,” a name many came to know and love. Mel becoming a track star was ironic considering he failed gym class consistently throughout primary school.

He was married to his beloved wife, Marguerite “Mickey” Fabean, until her untimely passing in 1995, when she was taken from this world far too soon. Later in life, Tico was fortunate to find love again with his partner, Elaine Rhawn, who perfectly balanced his spice with her sweetness. Together, they shared many happy moments—whether attending bingo, searching for treasures at yard sales, or simply enjoying time spent fishing side by side.

Melvin worked for Fisher Controls as a shipper/receiver before finding his favorite role as a maintenance man at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Convent. He retired in July 1993, but the Felician Sisters remained close to his heart for the rest of his life.

Known for his quick wit and unforgettable one-liners, Tico had a gift for making people laugh and bringing light into any room he entered. His humor, warmth, and love for his family will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving partner, Elaine Rhawn; his deeply loved daughters, Sandra DePace and Michelle Farley; and his cherished grandchildren, James, Sara, Matt, Richard, Michelle, and Royal. He also leaves behind his bonus children, Dennis Rhawn Jr., Virginia Mannion (Sean), bonus grandchildren Maeve, Michael, Maille, and Mia, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Additionally, Michael Harris, who was family in every way that attered.

Melvin’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and a life well-lived—one that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Per Mel’s request, the family will be holding a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Felician Sisters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Montour Street, Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.

Arrangements entrusted to R. D. Copeland, Ltd.
