Mel Wegley, fondly known as “Dad”, “Pap Pap”, “Uncle Mel”, and a friend, 67, a long-time resident of Groveton, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital. Mel, son of the late Paul and Alice (Fraser) Pahel, was born in McKees Rocks on September 20, 1954. In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by the mother of his children Kathleen Snyder and his biological father Leroy Wegley. He is survived by beloved sons Paul “Willy” Wegley and wife Megan, Randy Wegley, and Robert Snyder; and his favorite sidekick “Molly” the dog; well-loved grandchildren Morgan, Hunter, and Kathleen “Katie”; cherished brother of Jeanne Hughes, Barbara (John) Walczak, Kenny (Josie) Hughes, Diane (Ed) James, Gail (John) Carifo, and Robin (Kurt) Hyde; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mel attended Quaker Valley High School where he played football and baseball. He worked in construction and roofing all his life. He loved Harley Davidsons, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Nascar Races and motorcycles. He was a jokester until his last day on earth, loving to tell his one-line joke, and waiting for the inevitable laugh of the recipient. He was fun loving, kind and enjoyed laughing and was beloved by many. Visitation Tuesday 2-4, 6-8 and Wednesday from 2-6 PM with time for sharing thoughts and memories at 5 PM at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave. A celebration of life will be organized and held at a later date.
