Matthew Joseph Rex Wormsley

Born in Sewickley October 12, 1946, to Mattie King Wormsley and James “Seymour” Collins Wormsley Sr., Matthew “Matt” Joseph Rex Wormsley was a man of few words. But give him any tool and the work of his hands spoke volumes. He was the last surviving brother of Mattie Butler’s three sons. The husband of one wife, Matt picked the beautiful Shirley Jones for his own at Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale.

Their love survived Matt’s stint in Vietnam after he was drafted into the Army in 1966. He served in 101st Airborne Infantry until 1969 and Matt and Shirley married in October of that same year. Two children were added to the family: Candice Diane in 1974 and Andrew Rex in 1979.

A draftsman by trade, Matt adored fixing cars and completing various projects around the home. A true Mr. Fix it All, he once added a whole floor with two bedrooms to one of their family homes and installed a complete engine in a car.

Matt’s other love was motorcycles. His motorcycle gang was other husbands and fathers who would meet for coffee, don their leathers and ride all over the countryside.

Matthew was preceded in death by his older brother, James Collins “Choo” Wormsley Jr; his younger brother, Lewis Gregory Hampton; his father James Collins Wormsley Sr.; his mother, Mattie King Butler; his stepfather, Lewis Hampton; a beloved aunt, Minnie King and beloved uncle, Harvey King.

Left to mourn his passing are his high school sweetheart and wife, Shirley, his daughter Candice Wormsley, his son, Andrew (Laura) Wormsley, grandchildren Kaige Wormsley, Talia Chappell, Rohaun Wormsley, Ophelia Wormsley, and Solaris Wormsley; sisters-in-law June Wormsley and Dawn Hampton; eight nieces and nine nephews; cousins, Karen, Alfred “Rocky” and Michael King; and a host of other family and friends.

Friends will be received at the R.D. Copeland Funeral Home, 867 5th Avenue, Coraopolis on Friday, January 2nd from 4 - 6pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10am on Saturday, January 3rd followed by interment at Sewickley Cemetery.
