Matthew Foster Obituary

Matthew Paul Foster, age 24, died in Pittsburgh, PA on August 6th, 2025 at 11:08 PM.

Matthew was born on March 6th, 2001 in the same town. From the start, Matthew proved he was made of courage and endurance. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and required three open heart surgeries before the age of four, ultimately blessing him with good health and a big heart. Despite these challenges, he never let his heart condition slow him down. Growing up he had an insatiable need for speed. He loved fast cars, fast games, and fast paced sports. Fortunately, his time spent growing up in Germany provided ample opportunity for all of the above. To this day, it is hard to say if Matthew or his mother enjoyed the limitless speeds of the Autoban more.

Ever the builder, he thrived on using his own hands to improve the world around him. He turned his passions into projects. Matthew built his own gaming system so it could meet his own stringent set of specifications. Once old enough to drive, he was constantly tinkering on his beloved Toyota truck making endless modifications. Eventually he upped the ante and graduated to 18-wheeler trucks. He cherished the travel and exploration his long haul trucking afforded him. The most difficult aspect of his job was leaving behind Hemingway - his precious polydactyl cat. Hemingway could always be found beside the back door, waiting for his best friend to come home.

In his later years, he navigated mental health struggles that revealed both his vulnerability and his strength. His journey reminds us of the importance of compassion and understanding.

Matthew is survived by his loving parents Joy and Ron Foster, his oldest sister Lea Newport and her husband Ryan Newport, middle sister Jenna Hurley and her husband Max Hurley, his twin sister Madison Foster and her fiancé Jimmy Knepper, and grandparents Jean Lea and Linda and Steve Kifer. He also leaves behind a large group of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who adored him dearly.

A visitation will take place on Monday, August 11th from 4 pm - 8 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road, Moon Township, PA 15108. A Catholic Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 12th at 10 am at St Margaret Mary Church, 1 Parish Place, Moon Township, PA 15108.
