Martha E. (Johnson) Evanko

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martha (Marty) Elizabeth Johnson Evanko who entered eternal life on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the age of 87. Marty was born on March 5, 1937 in Springfield, Ohio to John and Agnes (Smith) Johnson. She worked in the family grocery store. She attended Catholic Central High School where she contributed as a staff writer for the school newspaper, participated as a class officer on Student Council, played volleyball, and sang in the choir. She attended St. Mary of the Springs where she met her husband Richard (Dick) Evanko at a dance her sorority was hosting. She and her husband, Dick, who predeceased her in 2021, were married for 63 years and they raised five children together: four sons, John, William (Bill), Michael and Matthew, and one daughter, Ann. Together, with her in-laws, sister Katy and Dick’s twin brother Bob, they formed West Hills Par 3 and Pro Shop. She later started her own travel business that operated for 23 years, with the primary focus being on planning downhill ski trips and accompanying ski groups to various resorts in the United States and Canada. One of her favorite clients was the Pittsburgh Ski Club, and they took many trips together to Vail, Colorado. As an adult, Marty liked to play tennis and golf, swim, snow ski, and travel. She also loved her flower garden. Of course, she was a big Steelers fan. Marty loved to host dinners and parties with family and friends, and she was a great cook. She was very social. She and her husband could dance for hours. Marty is survived by two sisters (Joanne Casey and Mary Ellen Hartman), her five children, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. We will all miss her greatly. Funeral services will be held at Copeland Funeral Home at 981 Brodhead Rd, Moon Twp, PA. Visitation will be Monday, February 3 from 2 – 5 PM. The funeral will be Tuesday, February 4 at 11 AM, and then she will be interred at Saint Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity.
