M. Richard “Rich” Edmunds, age 81, of Coraopolis, passed away on April 14, 2020 following complications of COVID-19.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Rose Edmunds. Rich is survived by his brothers Louis “Bud” Edmunds of Somerset; Michael Edmunds of Pittsburgh; and his loving companion, Barbara Swartz Peer of Coraopolis as well as his lifelong best friend Fred Rauschart. Also several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rich was born in Crescent Township, graduated from Coraopolis High School in 1957, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1965. Rich served in the Pittsburgh Air National Guard and was a member of the Coraopolis Sportsmen’s Association.
Anyone who knew Rich, understood he was well suited for a successful career in Public Relations. He worked at Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel before being recruited to the Pittsburgh Business Institute, from where he retired. He then worked with Professional Pool Inc. of Sewickley.
Rich met his childhood neighbor and classmate Barbara, at the renowned Coraopolis Cash Market in 2009. She was a widow, and Rich asked her for a date. That began a beautiful 11-year relationship that continues to this day.
Rich, a strong skier and horseman, enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Rich was a licensed pilot and active with the Beaver Valley Flying Club. In fact, Rich, was able to do just about ANYthing, including building his own Rutan Long-EZ plane!
A celebration of Rich’s life will be held with loved ones at a later date. Rich’s family suggests memorial gifts in Rich’s name, be made to the charity of your choice.
