Kevin Timothy Cooney

Kevin Timothy Cooney, 84, of Moon Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Harmony at Diamond Ridge. Kevin was born in Aliquippa on June 17, 1940, one of seven to the late Patrick and Margaret (Ihnat) Cooney. Kevin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Himmer) Cooney. Loving father of Brendan (Amy) Cooney and Eric (Karen) Cooney; cherished grandfather of Tara (Lindsey) Cooney and Eleanor Cooney; proud great grandfather of Finnegan Cooney; brother of Margie, Rachel, Patrick, Timothy, and the late Maureen and Pamela. Brother-in-law of Rick (Karen) Himmer and Nancy (the late Joseph) Wesolosky. Kevin was a graduate of Aliquippa High School and Bucknell University where he played basketball and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Shortly after graduation, Kevin joined the U.S. Air Force and was recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Medal of Merit. He also belonged to the Air National Guard for 10 years, discharged as a Captain. Upon discharge, he then went to a civilian job in sales at Burroughs-Unisys, where he achieved numerous sales awards. After retirement, he worked part-time for U.S. Airways. Kevin and Betty enjoyed extensive traveling, camping, and skiing. Memorial Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 23rd from 5-7 PM at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where service will be held on Thursday, April 24th at 11 AM. Burial will be private in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Gallagher Hospice. The family would like to thank everyone at Harmony at Diamond Ridge for their outstanding in care and concern for Kevin.
