June Marlene (Tirk) Shaffer

June Marlene (Tirk) Shaffer, of Moon Township formerly of Penn Hills., passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospice House. She was 85.  Marlene was born in Pittsburgh on November 24, 1934 to the late Frank Paul and Thelma (Erb) Tirk. On June 2, 2018, June was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Willard Dean Shaffer of Crafton/Ingram. June was a graduate of Penn Hills High School, Class of 1952 and a graduate of Presbyterian School of Nursing, Class of 1955.  One fun fact: does anyone remember June driving around in her Red Volkswagen Convertible with its White Top?  She served as a R.N. at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for 15 years and at Ohio Valley Hospital Emergency Room for 20 years. June was kind and loving. Beloved mother of Janet Lynn Shaffer of Moon Township and Robert Craig Shaffer (Dina Caputo) of Pickerington, OH; cherished grandmother of Robert John and Marisa Lynn Shaffer; loving sister of Beverly Tirk Nelson (Larry) Greer, SC. Invitation only funeral will be held on Wednesday (May 13) at Copeland’s Moon Township. Burial will follow at Coraopolis Cemetery. Family suggests donations, if desired to the American Heart Association.
