Josephine Turkel passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 1, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on August 7, 1932, in Ambridge, PA, the daughter of Joseph and Rose Giovinazzo.
On November 21, 1953, Josephine married the love of her life, James Turkel. They built a wonderful life together, grounded in devotion, shared laughter, and a true partnership.
Josephine was a Bell (AT&T) telephone operator before starting a family. She dedicated her life in being a stay at home mom and raising three daughters with love and patience in Conway.
Her abilities in the kitchen were legendary and anyone who has ever been close to her in life knows that there was never a shortage of delicious pastries just waiting to be shared with anyone who passed through her day.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Vrana, Valerie Yukner, Melanie Vandegrift, two grandnieces, two grandnephews, and one great grandnephew and grandniece. Josephine is predeceased by her husband James Turkel, parents, sister, Annette, brother John, and brother, Joseph.
Friends will be received at R. D. Copeland, Ltd., Irvine Chapel, 702 Beaver Street, Sewickley on Friday from 4 – 8 pm, where a Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at 12 pm. Burial will follow in Sewickley Cemetery.
