Jonathan Stewart Kostial

Jonathan Stewart Kostial: Age 29, of Moon Township, PA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 20, 2023. Jonathan was born on October 28, 1993, a cherished son of James and Ann (Stewart) Kostial. Jonathan was a beloved brother of Jen (Moore) and Jayme Kostial. Jonathan worked as a employee of American Eagle but his main passion was Personal Training. Jonathan was a certified Personal Trainer who was dedicated to weight lifting and nutrition. Jonathan’s whole life was devoted to sports. He played ice hockey since the age of 5. As time went on, Jonathan had eased away from participation in the likes of baseball and football and concentrated on hockey. As a freshman at Bishop Canevin High School, he led the team in scoring, and finished among the top five in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League the following season. After that, he shifted his emphasis to playing for the Pittsburgh Hornets, a AAA National hockey program. As a little tuck, his hockey aspirations focus, as they had since he was a youngster, on playing for a Division 1 collegiate program. Several schools had expressed interest, including Robert Morris University. He progressed all the way up until the New Hampshire Tomahawks USPHL team. Jonathan enjoyed the opportunity to play in the highly competitive North American Hockey League. Jonathan signed with the Johnstown Tomahawks in the NAHL shortly after his 19th birthday. Jonathan was a kind soul who would do anything for anyone he cared for. He had an infectious smile and could light up a room. The amount of people he touched in his short life was innumerable. He will be greatly missed by all those whose heart he touched. He is proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rita and Jack Stewart; his paternal grandmother, Betty Kostial; his uncle Tom Stewart; and his cousin, Adam Kostial. He is survived by his parents Ann and Jim Kostial, sisters, Jen (Moore) and Jayme Kostial, Uncles, Ed Stewart, Ed Kostial, Aunts, Karen DeMarco, Susan Stewart and Cindy Witalis, and many other family and friends who will miss him greatly.

Friends will be received at R.D. Copeland Funeral Home. 981 Brodhead Rd, Moon Township, on Friday from 4-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home Saturday at 12 Noon. Contributions may be made to Addiction Recovery Ministry, www.addictionrecoveryministrypittsburgh.org
