John U. “Jack” Young, Jr., 89, of Moon Township since 1963, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022, at UPMC Passavant. He was born in Pittsburgh on June 25, 1932, one of two children to the late Louise (Barksdale) John U. Young Sr. Jack married the love of his life, Frances Manko, on October 4, 1958. Fran preceded Jack in death on December 25, 2017. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Ann Young. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Steven McMurry of Wexford and Pap Pap’s three cherished grandchildren Kayla (fiancé Tucker Arthurs), Daniel, and Elizabeth. Jack attended St. Philips Church, was a member of the Leetsdale VFW Post #3372 and the Bell of PA Pioneers. Jack was employed by Bell of PA (later Bell Atlantic) for 37 years, working himself up to Supervisor of both the Moon and Sewickley Office until he retired in 1989. When the Korean War broke out, he proudly joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Jack was a 1950 graduate of Oliver High School and had attended University of Pittsburgh. Jack’s personality was such that drew people to him. His porch was no stranger to company being that of neighbors, friends, and wildlife. He was an avid bird watcher, especially hummingbirds and Baltimore Orioles, along with deer, and squirrels. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and he also loved going to the Casino. Visitation Friday 6-8 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where service will be held on Saturday at 10 AM followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full Military Honors.
