John A. Patterson, 77, a resident of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 25, 2026. John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joyce Patterson; his children, Joye Hagen (Eric), Jenn Koscinski (Tom), and John Patterson (Mary); and his cherished grandchildren, Spencer Hagen (Kathryn), Gregory Cumpston, Carter Hagen, Aubrey Cumpston, and Juliet Patterson. He is also survived by his sister, Hedy Diley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evaline Kolb Kudorko; his brother, Arthur Prevost; and his sisters, Anna Mae Willie and Myrna Loy Pratt. John proudly served his country as a helicopter mechanic in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era and continued his service in the Air National Guard. His commitment to service continued through a distinguished career with the Allegheny County Police from 1973 to 1999, where he was a valued member of the SWAT team and a founding member of the Allegheny County bomb squad. Much of his career was spent stationed at Pittsburgh International Airport, where he served and protected travelers from all walks of life. His post gave him the unique opportunity to assist notable figures, including President George H. W. Bush. It was also there, amid the constant movement of the airport, that he met his wife, Joyce, beginning a partnership that would last a lifetime. John was known for his dry sense of humor, the kind that could catch you off guard and, more than once, get him into a bit of trouble. First impressions, especially in uniform, painted him as formidable and not to be messed with. But those who truly knew him understood the deeper truth, that he carried a soft spot for anyone in need of support or protection, especially his family and the many friends he considered family. Outside of his service, John found peace in fishing and hunting, and joy in motion, whether riding his motorcycle or cruising on the water in his boat. He lived with quiet strength, steady loyalty, and a deep love for those closest to him. John’s life was defined by service, strength, humor, and heart. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he protected, and the countless lives he touched. Visitation Thursday (April 30th) 4-8 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd., with Fraternal Police Service at 7:00 PM Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Friday. Burial will be private at a later time. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations, if desired, to Beaver County Humane Society.
