Jean Scott Obituary

Jean (Krater) Scott, 89, of Moon Township, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, beloved wife of the late George E. Scott and mother to Marcia (Jeffrey) Hilovsky, Nancy (Richard) Girardi, John (Shannon) Scott and Bruce (Jennifer) Scott. She is predeceased by her parents, Howard R. and Helen (Earley) Krater and her brother, Don Krater. She is survived by her sister, Janet Krater Quint.

Jean’s happiest memories were of her Coraopolis high School years and many great friends from the “Great Class of 1950”. She loved you all. Jean was a proud graduate of Shadyside School of Nursing (1953) and worked for 40 years at doctor offices in Coraopolis and Moon, as well as private duty and industrial nursing at the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh and the Bulk Mail Center in Wexford.

As a knowledgeable and avid gardener, she and George labored with pride in their home garden of 60 years to be the Grand Winner of 1st Moon Township Garden Award. In the winter, Jean taught herself quilting and hand-stitched almost 50 quilts and wall hangings for her family. She enjoyed going to auctions and made tasty pumpkin pies for the Moon VFD fish frys. Every dog who met Jean got a huge smile and a scratch behind the ears, especially her Teddy, Mollie, and Murphy. If one word sums up Jean, it would be “hard-working”. Whether it was walking Murphy up and down Sharon Hill Manor, transplanting and weeding, or pushing a mower, Jean persevered to do her best, to be proud of the job.

She leaves behind 9 grateful grandchildren: Brody and Paige Scott, Shaley Scott, Ryan (Rachel) Scott, Bryan (Brenna) Girardi, Scott (Kyleigh) Girardi, Brad (Jenna) Hilovsky, Katie (Ryan) Thorne, Tim (Melissa) Hilovsky and great grandchildren, Natalie, and Jaxon Hilovsky.

She was one of the oldest members of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church, 1205 Ridge Ave., where a service will be held on Friday at 11 AM, visitation with the family 10-11 AM. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to “The Coraopolis Train Station Project”, care of Coraopolis Community Development, P.O. Box 40, Coraopolis, PA 15108, https://coraopolisfoundation.org/support.
