Janice Beattie Henley, 87, a life-long resident of Coraopolis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24th in the comfort of her home. Her last days were spent surrounded by family. Janice was born in Coraopolis on August 12, 1937, one of four children to the late Ulysses G. and Beulah Mazie (Gentry) Beattie. Janice was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Arnold P. Henley on July 2, 1990. She was a 1955 graduate of Coraopolis High School where she had been a member of the drill team. Her social circle was known as the “Secret 7”. She graduated from Duff’s Business School. Janice had various jobs that contributed to her secretarial and administrative skills. She began as a secretary first in the Pittsburgh State Office Building. She later worked at Zion Lutheran Church under Pastor Oberdick. Subsequentially, she worked at the Sewickley Care and Development Center and lastly retired in 2009 from YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh, CCIS. She also worked part-time as a tax-preparer at the H & R Block in various locations. Janice was an avid reader and member of the Loose-Leaf Book Club. She was a devoted member of St. Paul AME Zion Church where she had served as Pastor’s Steward, head of the kitchen committee, Missionary Society, and served as the President of the Akron District Lay Council. Janice cultivated a beautiful rose garden where her children would buy her rose plants, and they learned the joys of planting and pruning. Janice will be remembered for her caring nature and generosity. She was a great neighbor and friend. She would lift people’s spirits with goodies such as her home baked cakes, pies or cookies. Janice is survived by her beloved children: Kenneth B. Henderson, Arnold Scott Henley, and Cynthia Anne Henley; her cherished grandchildren Quinton Henley and Aubriana Henley; and her devoted siblings John Randolph Beattie, Judith Williams and George (Shirley) Beattie. Visitation Friday, (Nov. 29) 2-4, 6-8 and Saturday (Nov. 30) from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave. Burial will follow at Coraopolis Cemetery. The family welcomes flowers or donations may be made in her name to Living Water Church in Christ or VITAS Healthcare.
