James A. Ritchey, age 83, returned to his Heavenly Father on May 9th, 2022. He is currently attending a family reunion unlike any other, celebrating with loved ones he has not seen in a long time. Jim had an unwavering faith in God, and his faith only grew stronger in his final years of life.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Carol. Their romance lasted 65 years and was blessed with four wonderful children, Marsha Mitchell, Ron Ritchey (Lori), Valerie Kubik (Tony), and Jennifer Clement (Chris). He loved and adored his grandchildren, Jamie (Matt), Ashley, Katelyn (Kevin), Tyler (Emily), Tara, AJ, Noah, and Brady and he was so proud of them; he couldn’t wait to share stories of their accomplishments. Because of his fun nature and playfulness, his great-grandchildren, MJ, Ava, Luca, Liara, and Avrilee thoroughly enjoyed their time with him. He was truly the anchor of the family and he will be greatly missed by all.
One of six children, Jim is survived by his sister Leona Chamberlain (Don). Growing up, Jim was quite mischievous and liked to play pranks and Leona often found herself on the receiving end. Jim always had a funny story to tell and these were some of his favorites.
Jim was a dedicated husband first and foremost. He treasured his children and especially loved his role as Pap. He made friends everywhere he went and was loved by everyone. He was the greatest example in teaching his family the value of hard work, commitment to helping others, and the importance of being there for family. His greatest gift was his sense of humor and all the laughter shared.
Being the son of a preacher, he always loved to sing hymns. As he often said, being gifted with such an amazing voice, it would’ve been a shame not to share it.
He had a passion for nature as he always said that is where he felt closest to God. Jim was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent many years hunting and fishing alongside his family. He guided and taught his skills to his children and grandchildren, creating treasured memories to last throughout the generations.
Everyone is asked to celebrate Jim’s life in their own way. Doing an unexpected act of kindness would be quite appropriate.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would want you to make a donation to the charity of your choice in his name as he was always willing to help out anyone in need.
The family would like to express our sincere Thanks to his care team at UPMC Presbyterian. Your compassion and thoughtfulness at such a difficult time meant the world to us.
