James Post Obituary

James “Jim” Post, 78 of Coraopolis, passed away on , after Mar 11, 2024 a brief illness. Jim

was the son of the late James H. Post and Leona (Hermansen) Post. Jim was born in

Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Coraopolis, PA. He attended local schools, graduated from

Coraopolis High School, where he served as the 1963 Senior Class President and continued to

help organize their reunions. Jim was a standout athlete for the Blue Devils, especially in

baseball and football. He went on to graduate from Indiana University of PA, with a degree in

secondary education, where he also played football and was a member of the TKE Fraternity.

He received his masters degree from IUP and taught American History and Government at

Watertown (CT) High School for 35 years. After his retirement in 2002, he moved back to

Coraopolis and substitute taught in the Cornell and Moon Area School Districts. He was always

happy to hear about his former students and their accomplishments. Jim was an avid golfer and

sports enthusiast. While living in Connecticut, Jim was instrumental in expanding his beloved

Crestbrook Park Golf Course to a full 18 holes, and held the course record for a considerable

time. He coached many sports teams and volunteered his time as an official, umpire, and

announcer for high school football games. More recently, he loved playing golf in the Pittsburgh

area and in the Carolinas. Jim also enjoyed his trips to Bradenton, FL to see the Pirates during

Spring Training. Jim was an avid Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt fan, either attending

games or watching them at local establishments. He also enjoyed watching his son and

grandsons play sports throughout the years. Always being civic minded, Jim counseled many

Boy Scouts to earn their Eagle Scout badges and was awarded the Voice of Democracy Award

by the VFW, Post 402 Coraopolis, PA. In addition to family, Jim had many friends far and wide,

regardless of their ages or backgrounds. He was eager to share historical and political insight,

provide some good old fashioned advice, and was quick with a “one liner”. Jim touched many

people's lives and we are all better for knowing him. Jim is survived by his son, James Post and

his wife Jackie (Pikiell) Post of Middlebury, CT and grandsons Austin and Dylan Post. A brother,

Dr. Robert Post and his wife Bonnie (Croker) Post of Grove City, PA, former spouse Judith

(Lodzsun) Post, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours are on April 6th, 2024
