James “Jim” Post, 78 of Coraopolis, passed away on , after Mar 11, 2024 a brief illness. Jim
was the son of the late James H. Post and Leona (Hermansen) Post. Jim was born in
Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Coraopolis, PA. He attended local schools, graduated from
Coraopolis High School, where he served as the 1963 Senior Class President and continued to
help organize their reunions. Jim was a standout athlete for the Blue Devils, especially in
baseball and football. He went on to graduate from Indiana University of PA, with a degree in
secondary education, where he also played football and was a member of the TKE Fraternity.
He received his masters degree from IUP and taught American History and Government at
Watertown (CT) High School for 35 years. After his retirement in 2002, he moved back to
Coraopolis and substitute taught in the Cornell and Moon Area School Districts. He was always
happy to hear about his former students and their accomplishments. Jim was an avid golfer and
sports enthusiast. While living in Connecticut, Jim was instrumental in expanding his beloved
Crestbrook Park Golf Course to a full 18 holes, and held the course record for a considerable
time. He coached many sports teams and volunteered his time as an official, umpire, and
announcer for high school football games. More recently, he loved playing golf in the Pittsburgh
area and in the Carolinas. Jim also enjoyed his trips to Bradenton, FL to see the Pirates during
Spring Training. Jim was an avid Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt fan, either attending
games or watching them at local establishments. He also enjoyed watching his son and
grandsons play sports throughout the years. Always being civic minded, Jim counseled many
Boy Scouts to earn their Eagle Scout badges and was awarded the Voice of Democracy Award
by the VFW, Post 402 Coraopolis, PA. In addition to family, Jim had many friends far and wide,
regardless of their ages or backgrounds. He was eager to share historical and political insight,
provide some good old fashioned advice, and was quick with a “one liner”. Jim touched many
people's lives and we are all better for knowing him. Jim is survived by his son, James Post and
his wife Jackie (Pikiell) Post of Middlebury, CT and grandsons Austin and Dylan Post. A brother,
Dr. Robert Post and his wife Bonnie (Croker) Post of Grove City, PA, former spouse Judith
(Lodzsun) Post, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours are on April 6th, 2024
from 10:00am-12:00pm at Copeland Funeral Home located at 867 5th Ave. Coraopolis, PA
15108. A celebration of his life will also be held later in Connecticut, date to be announced.
