James E. Frye, Sr. was born on September 9, 1952 the second child of Rosalie Frye and James Fowler at Sewickley Valley Hospital. He attended McKinley Elementary School and Coraopolis Junior High School. The family moved to McKees Rocks and he graduated from Sto-Rox High School in June 1970. He immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps for a two-year tour of duty during the Vietnam War. During his tour of duty, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Mast for exceptional service above and beyond the usual requirements of duty, and the Rifle Marksman Badge. He was honorably discharged in June 1972.
Upon his return to civilian status, he returned home, got married and started a family. He began working as a clerk at US Steel. As steel production decreased, US Steel offered early-out incentives to their tenured employees and Jimmy took the money and proceeded to get his CDL license to drive tractor-trailers. He was hired by FedEx and started a whole new career. Soon thereafter he remarried and started a second family. He loved riding motorcycles and owned several during his lifetime. He also loved watching TV, listening to jazz and loved the Isley Brothers.
His Heavenly Father called him home April 18, 2022 after a short illness, and he leaves to celebrate his life, his daughter, Tiffany M. Frye of Moon Twp, PA, son James E. Frye, Jr. of Coraopolis, PA, step-daughter Crystal Maynard-Smith (Michael) of Coraopolis, PA, step-son Roderick McShane of Washington, DC, granddaughters, Ashley Pacheco and Azari Ford, 3 great-grandchildren, Avery, Aubrey and Aurey Pacheco, sister Darlene Frye McKinney, niece Shawn Frye (Andre), Great-nieces, Ciara and Ciana Frye, great-nephews, Donshae Mosley, William Robinson, and Jaymes Morton, III, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosalie Frye, father, James Fowler, cousin Carl Frye and cousin John Goodnight, Jr. Visitation Thursday, April 29, 2022, from 2 – 4 and 6 - 8 PM at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 12:30 pm followed by Interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors.
