Jacqueline Louise “Jackie” Shoener, 70, of Grove City, formerly of Edgeworth, passed away peacefully October 16, 2024 at the UPMC hospice inpatient unit in Lawrenceville. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Dr. John and Margaret Shoener. A Certified Public Accountant, she was a graduate of Sewickley Academy and attained undergraduate and graduate degrees from Colorado State University. She retired as an accounting and tax supervisor for General Nutrition Corporation in 2014.
Throughout her life, she was an avid gardener having learned the art at an early age working at Bauerle’s Greenhouse in North Hills. Her skills were evident not only in her own gardens, but in the traffic-island gardens throughout Pittsburgh that she cared for and maintained for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Her feeders and nesting boxes always attracted a variety of colorful songbirds. She was a skilled equestrian in her youth, a most elegant skier, and an accomplished golfer. Her exuberance for the outdoors was reflected in her passion for hiking and biking. Always seeking new adventures, she traveled extensively throughout the world especially in retirement. An avid reader, a favorite book was The Emerald Mile, a book about courage, strength, and perseverance, attributes she possessed and lived by.
She is survived by her loving husband and constant companion Bob Grega, her siblings, Judy (Harton) Semple, Jim (Toni) Shoener, and Jeff (Beth) Shoener, and a niece and several nephews and their children.
She leaves a legacy of kindness and generosity with the establishment of an endowment for sarcoma research. To make donations in her memory, checks may be made payable to the University of Pittsburgh with Shoener Fund in the memo section, and mailed to: UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
