Ira David Flecker, 68, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 29th at Perry Health Care in Wexford following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 12th, 1957 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, one of five children born to the late David and Myra Walker Flecker. He was preceded in death by an infant sister Linda Mae, and is survived by siblings Pam (Tim) Webb, James Flecker, and Nancy (Steve) Petrella. He was a proud uncle to six nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews.
A 1976 graduate of Moon High School, Ira served in the United States Army Infantry for 4 years as an Armored Reconnaissance Specialist. While stationed in West Germany during the Cold War, he indulged his interest in history and learning by traveling extensively in his free time. He was a psychiatric aide for 35 years at Mayview and Torrance State Hospitals, retiring in 2015.
Prior to his illness, Ira traveled annually to Gettysburg during Civil War Reenactments. He was also the unofficial videographer at family birthday parties.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bridges Hospice and Perry Health Care for their compassionate care during Ira's illness.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, can be made in Ira's memory to either Ridge Academy (Library Fund) 100 Gorwood Drive Coraopolis PA 15108, or to the American Red Cross 250 Alpha Drive Pittsburgh PA 15238.
Arrangements are entrusted to Copeland Funeral Home in Moon Township. A private service will be followed by interment with full military honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
