Herbert Ferdinand Schlentner, 98, of Baden, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Heritage Valley Beaver. Herbert was born in Sewickley on June 7,1925, the youngest of four children born to the late Rudolph and Helena (Sukutytes) Schlentner. Herbert was a 1942 graduate of Sewickley High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Baden VFW. For 35 years, he worked as a Switchman for Bell Atlantic, retiring in 1985. Herbert was a handyman, somewhat a “jack of all trades.” He also enjoyed collecting coins. As a member of the greatest generation, he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather and great grandfather, loved his country, was a hard worker with high ethics, was frugal and loved his God. On January 4, 2024, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Mary Louise (Thomas) Schlentner. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Janet Salopek; his sisters Johanna Seagren and Erna Baumgartel; and his brother Raymond Schlentner. He is survived by his daughter Linda (Michael) Moore, his son Eric (Patricia Schwalbach) Schlentner, and son-in-law John Salopek; grandfather of Matthew Salopek, Jeffrey (Katie) Salopek, and Gregory (Natalie) Salopek; great grandfather of Lilliana, Amelia, Nolan, and Nora. A private entombment will be held later at Sewickley Cemetery. If desired, the family suggests donations in his name to Beaver County Humane Society. Arrangements by Copeland’s.
