Geraldine L. “Jeanie” (Rush) Baker, 100, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Lake Minnetonka Shores Care Center, MN, where she had made her home since 2008, formerly of Coraopolis. Jeanie was born in Carmichaels, PA on December 23, 1924, one of seven children born to the late Lawrence and Mabel (Ewing) Rush. Geraldine moved to Coraopolis after high school to join her sister, Eleanor. Coraopolis was a wonderful bustling little town, a hub of transportation, that employed many residents and was a great place to live with many churches. Before children, she worked in Pittsburgh at LC Moore Corporation, walking to the train station daily. She married her husband, Duane Baker, on August 6, 1945, and he passed away on July 10, 1994. Later on her life, Jeanie began working at the Adele Shop and the Village Shoppe, both in downtown Coraopolis, always driven to work by her husband, an old-time custom. Jeanie, married in her early 20’s, was blessed with three children, Bradley in 1947, Susan in 1952 and Paul in 1966. While raising her children, she had her own business, out of her home, selling Vivianne Woodard Cosmetics. Jeanie had been a member of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church. Later, in her life, she moved to Bellevue, across from Suburban General, to be close to Paul and Arla. Loving her grandchildren, it was natural to watch over them, giving much purpose to her life. As her health care changed with age, she moved to Minnesota and eventually to Presbyterian Homes to be near her daughter. She had several surgeries, dubbing her the bionic women, two knees and a hip in her 80’s. Never letting anything stop her, she continued to make friends with staff and other residents, where she was well-loved. Beloved mother of Bradley (Loretta) Baker, Susan (Terry) Schiro, and Paul (Arla) Baker; sister of Duane (Sally) Rush and the late L.L. “Babe” Rush, Jr., Eleanor “Scoot” Tompkins, Reed, Gary, and Shirley; grandmother of Wayne (Sarah) and their children, Cameron and Lindsay; Gregory and his children, Alexus, Dana, and Gelena; Susan’s daughter, Kelly, and Paul’s children, Scott, Bryce, and Seth. Visitation Wednesday, July 16, from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM, officiated by her brother, Duane, at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Ave. Burial will follow at Coraopolis Cemetery. Sometimes, it is like a step back in time, a by-gone era, sprinkled with etiquette, charm and customs of society. One hundred years, so many old ways and old memories, all knitted together to create a history of a beautiful little town. It was a time of fancy formal clothing, gloves on Sunday, and hats that matched your coat and handbag. Things we love to reminisce. The politeness and kindness shown to others, with gentlemen, the smile followed by the tipping of a hat to say hello. Geraldine was part of that generation, a genteel generation, with a grace all of its own. She was well loved by her family.
