Geraldine L. Zimmerman
Geraldine L. Dorty Zimmerman (Gerri) was born in Cove Gap, Mercersburg, PA September 24, 1935, and passed September 28, 2024, in Beaver, PA.
Geraldine grew up on a farm in Mercersburg with four brothers and six sisters. She married Truman J. Zimmerman on January 1, 1955. She and Truman raised six children in Crescent, PA; Debra Zimmerman Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK, Joel Zimmerman (Angela) of New Albany, IN, Michelle Stover (Rich Valiga) of Mrytle Beach, SC, Trudy Zimmerman of Medina, OH, Jay Zimmerman of Carthage, TN and Susan Zimmerman of Oakland, MD.
After moving to Crescent, PA in 1964, our mother was continually active. She led the Harpers Village Women’s Club and supported her children with all their endeavors including being instrumental in the development of and coaching girls’ softball and basketball programs in the mid-1960’s and 70’s.
Her work career included various clerical positions in several industries until finding the tax preparation field. She continued her on-going training and education in tax preparation working for an agency in Ambridge, PA and eventually going into business for herself in 2005, Gerri’s Tax Service and Notary, until her retirement in 2017. Throughout these years she volunteered and became an officer with the Ambridge Lions’s Club donating time for their numerous activities for over 20 years.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, all her children and spouses, and nine grandchildren: Logan (Quetzal Velasco) Zimmerman, Sidra (Hal) Koss, Jennifer Fitzwater, Jessica (Jeff) Kader, D.J. Stover, Haley (Brian) Wannebo, Dillon Zimmerman, and step-grandsons Dan (Katherine) and Russ Johnson (Whitney). She is also survived by three sisters, Carol (Jerry) Mellott, Mercersburg, PA, Verna Phenicie, Greencastle, PA, and Hazel (Richard) Nelson, Conway, SC. Lastly, she is survived by her beloved dog of many years, Rosie.
A celebration of life will be held with the family at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beaver Valley Humane Society, 3394 Broadhead Rd, Aliquippa, PA 15001. Mom and Dad rescued many dogs over the years. Each one was so very special and always became “Mom’s dog.”
