Jerry Reiner, 83, of American Fork, Utah (formerly Avalon, Pa.) passed away on August 20, 2023 after a multiyear battle with dementia. Jerry’s family and friends will honor his legacy by celebrating his life and carrying his smile in their hearts.
Born in Pittsburgh on December 26, 1939 to the late Gerald and Mary Reiner (Jaecke). Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Doris Reiner (Vetter), and granddaughter Raven Reiner. Loving father to Barbara (Walter) Maraccini, Jo Reiner, Susanne King, Gerald J. (Julia) Reiner III, Diane (Tom) Purcell, and Tom Reiner. Grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 11.
Jerry joined the Marine Corps in 1957 at the age of 17. He served in Hawaii with HMR(L)-161 as a Helicopter Maintenance Chief, before serving at Marine Corps Air Station in New River, North Carolina.
After the Marines, Jerry returned to Pittsburgh where he raised his family. An avid Bible scholar, Jerry was active in several Christian and Church of Christ congregations in the Pittsburgh area. Later in life, Jerry moved to be closer to family: first to Houston, then Atlanta, back to Pittsburgh, and finally to American Fork in Utah.
Jerry, a proud Marine veteran, fought his dementia like he lived his life: with a quick smile, a silly joke, and an occasional curse word! A voracious Bible reader, history buff, and family genealogy researcher, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation is Wednesday, August 30 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at RD COPELAND'S MOON TOWNSHIP, 981 Brodhead Rd. Service is Thursday, August 31 at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at 12:30 PM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
