Georgeann (Foster) Tomana

Georgeann Tomana of Moon Township passed away peacefully on Monday January 16 at the age of 90 in the Community of Holy Family Manor.  She is survived by her children, Michael of Sewickley, and Joyce of Moon Township. Georgeann took great pride in welcoming two more generations into her family.  Michael and his late wife Sally raised three daughters: Laura Tomana, Katie (Jay) Holloway, and Christine (David) Poluszejko.  Five great-grandchildren followed: Jack and Caroline Holloway; and Grace, Emme and AnnaCate Poluszejko.  Georgeann was preceded in death by Richard, her beloved husband of 57 years, her parents Dr. George Foster, and his wife Vera (Loedding), and sisters Vera Becker and Mary Rose Dawson. Her sister Nancy (Floyd) Clawson resides in Allentown, New Jersey.
Georgeann and Richard’s love story began in 1952.  Both were raised in Ambridge, PA but did not meet until she began a promising nursing career at Mercy Hospital, and he was a star baseball pitcher and Air Force ROTC student at Duquesne University.  They married in June 1954 and their honeymoon trip was the drive to Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA.  They returned to the Pittsburgh area in 1956 with their newborn son Michael.  Georgeann was an enthusiastic homemaker and excellent gardener, a voracious reader, and a loyal Pittsburgh sports fan as she and Richard raised their family.  Together they took great joy in travelling on fall weekends to see their son play linebacker at Yale University and tour the Penn State University campus with their daughter, a journalism student and sports editor of the Daily Collegian.  Georgeann had a lengthy, successful career in nurse management and later retired from Ohio Valley Hospital. 
A memorial mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church, Moon Township on Tuesday January 24th at 10 am.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Fern Hollow Nature Center, 1901 Glen Mitchell Road, Sewickley PA 15143.  Arrangements are entrusted to R.D. Copeland of Moon.
