George F. Burkert, 83, of Sewickley Hills, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Born on May 21, 1941, George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone he met.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Kathleen E. (Kish) Burkert; his children, Kimberly (Barry) Dougherty, Randy (Sharm) Burkert, and Julie (Andy) Shuty; and his 7 cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew “Drew” Shuty .
George had a lifelong passion for fixing things, having worked as an auto service manager. His love for his pond, ducks and geese was evident in his playful nickname, "Duck-man," and his close bond with Lucy, the goose he raised from a gosling. He enjoyed riding around the property in his golf-cart, affectionately named "Goofy.”
George was an adventurous cook, known for his smoking and grilling skills. He hosted many epic bonfires where he shared his delicious creations.
In his downtime, George enjoyed watching classic westerns, especially Gunsmoke and the films of John Wayne. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and the unconditional love he gave to his family.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time. A private memorial will be held at a future date. Arrangements entrusted to R.D.
