Frederick Gregorich Obituary

Frederick R. Gregorich, 88, of Oakdale, Pa passed away on Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 after a brief illness. Fred was born on March 30th, 1932 to the late Charles and Barbara (Brinski) Gregorich. He grew up in Moon Run, Pa and graduated from Moon Run High School in 1950. He obtained a degree in Engineering Mechanics and was employed by Dravo Engineering and later Tru-Well. Fred was an accomplished accordion player and musician, founding his own polka bands including his most prolific, Fred Gregorich and the Del Fi's. The band produced many polka songs including his personal favorite Cheese 'n Crackers Polka which he received a Greatest All-Time Hit Song Award in 2006. During his musical career Fred received many recognitions including induction into the Cleveland Polka Hall of Fame, Polka Pals Man of the Year and Umpapa Musician of the Year. But he loved nothing more than to be on stage with his band playing lively polka songs as the crowd headed to the dance floor. Fred also enjoyed spending time with WWII veterans and sharing his story of finding his late brother Ed's WWII dog tag at the original crash site in Montana. He was an enthusiastic traveler and very proud of his Croatian heritage. He loved family history which he researched tirelessly and he kept everyone connected with family updates. Fred loved life and lived it to the fullest. His children will be forever grateful for all that he did for them and for inspiring our love of music.

To Dance is Human, To Polka is Divine.

He is survived by his daughters Denise (Mario) Pass, Barbara (Mark) Michenzi, Heidi (Joseph) Martin and son Fred, Jr. (Jerri) Gregorich, grandchildren Jordan, Caleb and Sydney Pass, Wesley and Madeline Martin, Krystine Gregorich and Abbey Gudelsky and 4 great-grandchildren Alexander and Charlotte Pass and Rocco and Noah Gudelsky, Brother Richard Gregorich and special "cuz" Lorraine Solaman and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his companion Rachella Palaio, brothers Charles, Edward, Ernest and sister Charlotte Gregorich.
