Frank (Duke) P. Alimena

APRIL 24, 1926 – July 14, 2021

 
Frank (Duke) P. Alimena, 95, of Hopewell Township, Aliquippa, PA, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospice Heritage Valley Health Center - Beaver, on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

Mr. Alimena was born on April 24, 1926, in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania to Frank and Anna Alimena. He was one of six children. He attended Moon High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Inch DE.  Having received the Purple Heart, he was honorably discharged in 1946.  After his discharge from military service, Frank was employed as a pipe fitter and welder at American Bridge Company until he retired in 1978.

An out-going, friendly man who loved God and his country, Frank was an active long-time member of New Bethlehem Church in Hopewell Township where he served several terms as an elder and trustee.  He also enjoyed being a Boy Scout Leader there. He loved music and singing, and although he sang mostly hymns he is especially known for singing the song, “Woman, Uh-huh!”  He liked being outdoors - planting vegetable gardens, hunting and fishing. Frank would offer help to anyone in need and was often recognized as a hero because of his quick response in emergency situations.

Frank is survived by his wife, Ruth V. (Lytle) Pander Alimena; his brother, William (Lucy) Alimena; his four children, William (Lyndsay) Alimena of Snellville, GA, Donna (Darell) Friend of Warrenton, VA, David (Suzanne) Alimena of Baytown, TX, and Sandra (Donald) Forsythe of Katy, TX; his two step-children, R. Martin Pander (Barbara) of Moon Township, and Carol (William) Gileot of Parma Heights, OH; the spouses of two step-children, Betty Pander and Parker Smith; 9 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-grandchildren – all who have loved him dearly.

Frank was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Jean (McChesney) Alimena; his parents; his sisters, Mary Bell and Dorothy Brown; brothers, Samuel Alimena and Ronald Alimena; and three step-children, Larry Pander, Kathy Smith, and Ronald Pander.  

Family will receive visitors at the Copeland Funeral Home in Moon Township on Sunday, July 18, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held at New Bethlehem Church, New Bethlehem Road, Aliquippa, PA, 15001, on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in his name to New Bethlehem Church, 183 New Bethlehem Church Rd., Aliquippa, PA 15001.
